GoPro Announces Release of Hero3

  • GoPro, maker of durable cameras for capturing action footage, has today (October 17) announced its new HD HERO3 camera lineup.

At the top of the range is the new HERO3: Black Edition, delivering 4K and 2.7K ultra-definition video resolutions from a camera that is the size of a box of matches.

The most advanced camera ever produced by GoPro, the WiFi-enabled HERO3: Black Edition is 30% smaller, 25% lighter and two times more powerful than previous models.

Wearable and gear mountable, the camera is waterproof to 197' (60m), and can capture ultra-wide 1440p 48fps, 1080p 60fps and 720p 120fps video, along with 12MP photos at a rate of 30 images per second.

It comes with a WiFi Remote, and the unit is compatible with the GoPro app, meaning users can control it with an iOS or Android device.

The HERO3: Silver Edition boasts the same performance specs as the HD HERO2 camera, which it replaces, but comes with built-in WiFi and is 30% smaller and 25% lighter.

Just like the Black Edition, the silver model is wearable and gear-mountable, and waterproof to 60m. It can capture 1080p 30fps and 720p 60fps video, along with 11MP photos at a rate of 10 per second.

Replacing the original HD HERO camera, the HERO3: White Edition has built-in WiFi, a new user interface and is 30% smaller and 25% lighter than the other model.
