Best Snowboard Bindings For 2013

There are lots of new binding models for next year and the technology behind all of them is amazing. Here is the list for 2013 that you should keep an eye out for in no particular order.

Burton Genesis Re-flex

There are a few points that need to be made with this new Burton Genisis. The first is that there are actually 2 high backs. The first one your boot makes contact with is the soft high back. This allows for tweaking in the park and a softer feel when you are putting slight pressure on your high back. The second high back is a hard one. This allows for ultimate response when you put high volumes of pressure on your high back. The second thing to talk about is the Re-flex system. What re-flex means is that instead of a traditional plastic base plate, Burton has cut the base plate in half from toe to heel and replaces the mid section with a softer rubber-like material. This will allow for a more natural flex under foot but will still allow you to put this binding on anything versus getting the EST binding which is more flexible but will only go on a EST board.

K2 Cinch CTX

Next we have the K2 Cinch line. The most popular one is the CTS because its got padding under foot at a reasonable price. The reason this system is so nice is because you get a hinge system that lifts the straps higher so the high back doesn’t have to fall to the floor every time. In addition, the straps will open all the way and include straps for a tight custom fit when needed. The difference between these models is quality in material. The CTC is lower grade plastic with no padding under foot and no buckle on the toe. The CTS has some padding and the buckle on the toe strap and the CTX is high grade plastics, straps, buckles and a higher quality high back.

NOW IPO

new technology snowboard binding

NOW is a fairly new company. However, they are hitting the streets hard with this new binding technology. Created by my man, JF Pelchat in his basement, the NOW IPO is a binding inspired by skateboard trucks and is going to be a game changer for everyone. The first cool thing about this binding is the structure relationship between the high back and the base plate. Because they were built to be flush with one another, you can choose to ride high back or no back for ultimate ‘tweekage.’ The second nice thing about this binding is the response it gives you with the new system of getting from toe to heel. Watch this video to get a better idea of how this all works.

Flow NX2 GT

The Flow bindings are very similar to the K2 Cinch line in that they both have high backs that come down. In the past that was about the only similar comparison that you could make about these two lines. However, Flow has made some nice changes that allow them to be a more serious competitor than ever before. They have improved the high back to base plate system so that the straps do move when putting the high back down. Was not the case in the past. In addition, they added a toe strap that should have people smiling all over the mountain again.
